Johnstown & "The Black Wall," Page 28, 1953 |
Description: |
Here is page two of a four-page article by Helen Thomson entitled "The Black Wall." It was published originally in the March 1953 issue of "Trains & Travel" magazine, page 28. Illustration Caption: "Pennsylvania's class R Consolidation was only four years old when the water took its toll." Depicted here is Pennsylvania Railroad engine #400, an "R" Class (2-8-0) "Consolidated" built in the Altoona Machine Shops during October of 1885, rebuilt after the disaster reported here, and retired in July of 1914 after 29 years of faithful service. It's the very first "R" Class locomotive produced in Altoona. |
